Cornerstones of Marriage
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave Himself for it; Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Eph.5:25 &33
Everyone who desires to have an excellent marriage must seek competence, sacrifice and devotion. Without which your marriage may not stand the test of time.
Competence: Husbands and wives must seek the skills required to take their marriage to the next level and execute them excellently well. Acquire the right skills in the bedroom, kitchen, love, communication and listening. Don’t waste your single days despising married people or being depressed. Instead exercise the three “P’s” of waiting – Prepare, Ponder and Pray. If you are incompetent as a single person you will be incompetent married. Incompetence has led to a lot of divorces. You need to constantly improve your skill.
Sacrifice: ‘love… even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave Himself for it‘. If you cannot live pure as a single person you also cannot live pure when you are married. Marriage does not take away the temptation for adultery or fornication. Temptations don’t go away when you are married; you must deal with it when you are single. You must be willing to sacrifice your personal needs for the joy of everyone.
Devotion: ‘Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband‘. You must be ready to play your part in marriage. You must also recognize your devotion to God Almighty who instituted Marriage. ‘Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral‘. Heb.13:4
Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace to acquire the required skill to take my marriage to the next level and sustain it in Jesus Name.
