Sole Authority

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Timothy.3:16-17

You cannot live your life based solely on what people say except you are taking God out of your life’s equation. What if, what they are saying is contrary to what God is saying concerning your direction at that time? While the Word of God advices that it is wisdom to surround yourself with godly counsel; the source of this advice is the Word. It is even more wisdom to make God’s Word the sole authority in your life. Single or married, let the Word be the bench mark for what is right or wrong in your decisions daily. It has been said that ‘the voice of the people is the voice of God’. That is a big lie; nothing can be further away from the truth than this. In fact, if you see the world going in one direction, go in the other direction because that is most likely where God is. Many times the only way forward is to separate yourself from the crowd and unto God. A typical example is the disciples in the upper room and look what God did with their lives. Let me give a quick illustration, a single girl meets the man of her dreams and better still he wants to marry her. However, there is this small detail; the dream man wants to sleep with you before the dream wedding. Gather all your friends that are unbelievers together, and ask their opinion on what to do. Then whatever they tell you to do, do the exact opposite. You would have found God’s will in going against the counsel of the ungodly. ‘No one would find out, it’s just this once, after all you are getting married to him anyway, technically you are already married and its better you find out now if everything is as it should’. Really; well, God knows and really only Him matters. The only person that you are capable of pleasing is God and the only person capable of pleasing you is God.

Prayer: Father, I come before you in Jesus name proclaiming that Your Word is the final authority in my life beginning from today. Help me live by Your Word in Jesus Name.

  1. I think the best thing is to become a student of the Word and the Spirit and then when you need direction it will flow accordingly. You need to know the Word for it to direct you when you need it most.
