Approaching God
‘But Joseph [first] shaved himself, changed his clothes, and made himself presentable; then he came into Pharaoh’s presence’ Gen.41:14b [AMP]
Having access to someone is one thing; approaching the person properly is another thing entirely. Yes you have access to God by the Blood of Jesus because you are under the new covenant but unfortunately that is not all it takes. It is just access. Imagine having access to the president of Nigeria; access means you can walk into his office in Aso Rock. Then what happens? The fact that you have access does not guarantee that you will get the desired result. Access is one thing, getting the desired result is another thing. God has given us access but it is up to us to maximize the access we have to the Father. What determines the degree of result is observing protocol. In days past and even now, when you come before a king, even when you have access, you must first pay him due respect. This is the way we must be with our God because He is the King of kings. The One who deserves all the honour. Assuming you travel abroad, and at immigration you are told that you will be meeting with the president. You probably will spend all your time till you meet him preparing. To ensure you know as much as possible about what you think is important. When you have to travel it is almost standard procedure to prepare, from ticket bookings to hotel reservations. Joseph had just been granted access to Pharaoh; ‘Joseph [first] shaved himself, changed his clothes, and made himself presentable; then he came into Pharaoh’s presence’. Joseph prepared to approach Pharaoh; how often do you prepare before you approach God. How come we are able to prepare to meet with men but when it comes to God we think we can approach Him shabbily and expect results. Joseph did not rush into the presence of Pharaoh, he prepared. Make it a point beginning from today, if you do not do it already, to prepare to meet with God daily. Don’t just stroll into His presence; prepare so that you can approach God properly. It helps to imagine the Throne Room worship and picture His glory.
Prayer: Father, thank You for granting me access into Your presence. Teach me how to approach You Lord. Help me prepare to spend time with You daily, in Jesus Name.
