Sources of Storms I
‘Throw me into the sea, Jonah said, and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault’. Jonah 1:12
The storms that we experience are not without reason. Storms come from varying sources that is why it is important to check and identify the source of the storm. Identifying the source of the storm better equips us with understanding to deal with the storms through Jesus Christ. Storms we experience sometimes arise as a result of the choices or decisions we have made. ‘The LORD gave this message to Jonah… Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it… But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the LORD…’ Jonah 1:1-3. And Jonah experienced fierce storms from that point on until he obeyed God. We sometimes bring storms our way with our own hands. Like Jonah we think we can act in the complete opposite of the instruction that God has given us. We take for granted that because He is still in the boat that we can wait this one out. It will attract a storm. This is why it is important to check! You are only as obedient as the last instruction. Being in disobedience will attract storms into your life. Many of us are not obeying God, especially in the little things. The Lord led you to give up your home for house fellowship and you did but have you stopped gossiping about who did and who didn’t? For instance, you have abandoned God’s plan for you and chosen to do what you want. The financial storm will not go until you obey God’s instructions. Then God will arise and rebuke the devourer for your sake. Disobedience is costly and has consequences. Your disobedience is attracting storms into your life and it is affecting all those who are in the boat with you. Stop and retrace your steps now while there is still time. Note however that sometimes even after you repent and obey God you will still have to go through the storm that has already begun. May God give us the grace to obey Him in Jesus Name.
Thought: Study the life of Abraham and learn how to instinctively obey God without delay.
Prayer: Father, I ask that You will have mercy on me and rebuke every storm that I have brought upon myself. May I never be found to have sinned against You Lord, in Jesus Name.
