The Tradition Box II
‘And so you cancel the Word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. And this is only one example among many others’ Mark 7:13
You cannot afford to allow tradition restrict the efficacy of God’s Word in your life. The sad part is that many people do not even question these traditions; they just adopt them because it is the way things had been done in the past. But why are you doing what you are doing? Have you ever asked why your family is not allowed to marry people from the other tribe? Some of these so called traditions that have become limitations were formed because someone had a mismanaged relationship in time past. And he chooses to hand down his experience to his children and children’s children. Tradition is not necessarily bad but when it conflicts with the Word of God, then there is a problem. You see Christians who have been troubling heaven for a life partner, then God answers and provides them with a partner. Yet they still refuse to marry the person just because the person is from tribe ‘x’. The Word of God says none shall lack her mate [Isa.34:16] whereas you are held bound by the traditions of your fathers [Mark 7:13]. Such people are held bound by such traditions. Regardless of all the prejudices, God is God. Some people would insist you do things the way it has always been done so that you can get the results that they have always gotten. People are unhappy in their marriage because they run their marriages based on tradition. There are men, who are very domesticated, they are better than their spouse when it comes to domestic affairs but they refuse to engage because of tradition. People who even though they are the ones that are gifted to do it, they refuse to do it because of the traditions of men. Then you wreck your relationship with your spouse and you are wondering why your marriage is not working. God wants to release new wine into your marriage but you are boxing Him with your traditions. Check your life, why are you doing what you are doing? The only thing that must not change in your life is your adoration of Jesus, anything else can change.
Prayer: Lord, teach me not to copy the behavior and customs of this world. Transform me into a new person by changing my mind. Teach me Your will for me which is good, pleasing and perfect.
