Unhealthy Links
‘Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God’ Luke 12:21
As human beings, we are wired for relationships. Yes, the company that you keep is very crucial. The need for relationships dates back to the day a child is born. The first thing doctors do is to hand the child to its mother for cuddling. There is a lot of scientific research that shows dysfunction in the children whose mothers did not cuddle them in the first few hours of existence. We have a need to be loved and a need to belong. Some relationships will last a life time and others can become unhealthy links. Unfortunately we tend to hang unto these bad relationships. Some people’s time in our lives has legitimately expired. It is time to let go and let God but we insist on holding on because we have a history that dates back to our childhood. Many times, instead of letting go, we keep on believing that the person will change and we are willing to risk corruption. You have a childhood friend who has suddenly grown consistently jealous and envious of you. He cannot stand it when you are doing well or getting promoted. This is a sign of an unhealthy relationship. It is time to let it go and let God give you new memories to hold onto. The strategy I believe God wants us to have when it comes to relationships is that we should hold loosely to people and tightly to God. Many of us do the opposite, we hold tightly to people and loosely to God. Relationships are not only capable of destroying our destinies here on earth; they are able to influence our eternity. Relationships are so crucial because ultimately when you stand before the gate of heaven what will determine whether you enter or not will be the relationship that you have with Jesus Christ. The gates will only open to you when you are washed in the soul cleansing Blood of the Lamb. Good works without Jesus cannot grant you access to God’s eternal rest. You cannot expect to have a relationship with the enemy and show up in heaven with the testimony of the Church your father built. Your life here and in eternity depends on your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I renew my love for You daily. Help me hold loosely to man and tightly to You all the days of my life, in Jesus Name.
