Discern Your Relationships
‘Corrupt people walk a thorny, treacherous road; whoever values life will avoid it’ Prov.22:5
As long as you maintain your relationship with the Holy Spirit, you possess the God given ability to read people. The Holy Spirit is able to tell you who people are right from your very first acquaintance. When you ask, you need to learn to trust what He tells you and act accordingly. It is possible that you will make mistakes sometimes. Yet you can trust Him to guide you into other ways to discern. For many of us, we have no idea of the character of the people who walk into our lives. As a Christian, you cannot afford to walk blindly especially into relationships. Make it a habit to ask God and trust Him to tell you. Some of the people who enter our lives are coming with the plan to run their own agenda. So they will manipulate and control things in your life according to their own purposes. They will even go to the extent of making your life miserable unless they have their way. Some are manipulative in a subtle way. They use emotional blackmail to control you. Others on the other hand, are more aggressive, they will bully you into submission. The truth is that no one can manipulate you without your consent. If anyone is manipulating you currently, it is because you have allowed it. Usually when you break the back of the manipulating person or you break their manipulation, they will exit your life and abuse you on the way out. What has really happened is that they have not succeeded in controlling your destiny. Some people will just bring constant conflict into your life. Every attempt at a normal conversation results in an argument or some sort of conflict. Some are extremely negative and will drain the life out of every idea you share with them. Others just want to bring the “latest news” from the grapevine to your door step. These are unhealthy relationships. ‘Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character’ 1Cor.15:33 [NIV]. When you stay close to the person of the Holy Spirit, you cannot be misled. He will guide you into the truth about people.
Prayer: Precious Holy Spirit, I ask that You will lead me into the truth about the people that I have surrounded myself with. Untie me from every destiny altering relationship, in Jesus Name.
