Unhealthy Baggage

Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted’ Titus 1:15

Relationships are like baggage, not all are necessarily bad. However, the toxic ones have a way to deterring your pilgrimage. Relations are crucial to your destiny and its fulfillment. ‘The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong. The wicked wait in ambush for the godly, looking for an excuse to kill them’ Ps.37:30 & 32. Healthy relationships propel you faster and further along the path of life. Unhealthy relationships on the other hand can cause you to derail terribly or miss your life’s purpose all together. ‘A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad’ Matt.12:33 One sign of an unhealthy relationship is its life sapping ability. Some people are just extremely negative. When you go to them bubbling with new ideas, by the time you are leaving them you are drained, filled with doubt and confusion. You go to them to share what God is doing in your life but instead they sow seeds of doubt and fear in your mind. Seeds that will ultimately limit the move of God in your life and limit your growth. Such a relationship is an unhealthy baggage. Some other relationships sow major seeds of distraction in your life. With such people, all they do is tell you everything about everybody. Things you have no business with but will keep you consistently distracted. If that is all that is between you, then it is an unhealthy relationship. A flip side to unhealthy relationships is that you need to make sure that you are not the toxic person in the relationship. Make sure that you are not the person that is making the relationship unhealthy. One way you can achieve that is by being kind to people. ‘Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good’ Rom.12:21 [KJV]. Enter every relationship determined to be good to the people you meet. It is more important to be kind than to be right. Bear good fruit in your relationships. That way you succeed in overcoming evil and in representing God in a good light.

Prayer: Father, I ask that You open my eyes to the good that I must do to overcome becoming toxic in my relationships. Draw people unto You, Lord, by my good works, in Jesus Name.
