Let Go Of Fig Leaves

‘…Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’ Acts 2:38

What area of your life have you sown fig leaves for? Some of us have a void in our hearts that only God can fill. Yet we try to fill it with everything except the One who can. People fill the void in their lives with sex, alcohol, or ungodly relationships. The people you are compromising for will one day find Christ and abandon you. Sometimes, we attempt to fill the void with seemingly harmless things. Even though those things are not sinful, they are still fig leaves. You have a legitimate God given desire to pray and spend time with God but instead you pick up the remote control or call someone on the phone. This is sowing fig leaves in an attempt to fill a void that only God can fill. It will not work. Only God can give you affection and acceptance that you seek. Let go of the fig leaves and cling unto God. Sometimes the figs that we sow are actually actions that do more damage to an already bad situation. You cannot cover a sin with another sin. Someone has sinned and in order to cover that sin resolves to commit another sin. You have said something that is wrong but instead of you to own up, you tell a lie. Instead of just owning up to the wrong deed and the lie, you tell another lie to cover up and another. You cannot un-sin, you can only repent. David’s attempt to conceal adultery resulted in lies, deception and eventually murder. None of it worked because with God there is nothing hidden that will not be made manifest. It may take one week or a month or a year but it’s going to come out. And the longer it takes to come out, the greater the scandal it is when it comes out. What are you covering? To offload this baggage of un-repented sin we have to run to God and not from God. The natural tendency is to run from God. Run to God and not from God is the first step and the next step is to stay connected to God [Matt.11:28-29]. Repentance is a change of mind, which will lead to a change in direction. Be yoked with Christ because Christ is the Way. Yoking with Christ will mean you cannot do a quick U-Turn.

Prayer: Lord have mercy on me. Help me spot every area of my life that I have sown fig leaves in an attempt to fill a void only You can. Teach me to shed the fig leaves daily, in Jesus Name.
