Unknown
‘The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that He has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions’ Deut. 29:29.
The truth is that there are things in nature that we see every day but its origins, destination and sustenance is known only by God. Every one of these elements in nature serves God’s purposes alone. A lot of us get to experience the mountains, the clouds, the stars, the rain, the trees and so many other elements daily. Yet can you tell where the sun gets its strength from, or where the moon stays until the sun goes away? Job was faced with these same questions. I have been faced with a similar question. It is wisdom to credit knowledge back to the Maker of the Heavens and the earth alone. Like Job, when God asks you these questions you realize a couple of things as I did. None of us were there when God created the mountains. God did not ask our opinion for what minerals to embed in the mountain. None of us can say for a fact how many centuries or millennia it took for the mountain to morph into its present shape. None of us can be prepared enough for that day when God would require of us the content of a mountain or any other thing in nature. Most certainly, man can accomplish much. Man has gone to the moon, mapped the depths of the oceans, and discovered the building blocks of life. Yet these accomplishments are ultimately governed by what God permits. If God does not reveal a matter, it will remain hidden for eternity. No matter how much we achieve, or how much knowledge we acquire, there will still be the ‘Unknown’. Left exclusively as the Almighty’s prerogative to make known or not. However, in no way should this dismay us or discourage us from our quest for godly knowledge. Rather, we should be humbled and excited by this. As Children of the Most High God, this should breed in us reverent awe and confidence in Him. For God, the Author of Creation, knows our future no matter how the present is and how the past has been. He bids that we make wise choices with the knowledge that has been given to us, and trust Him to take care of the unknown.
Prayer: Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.1 Cor. 13:12
