How to be Spiritually Rich III

‘The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more’ Matt.25:16-17.

Lesson 2: I need to see possibilities. Just from the story we can see that the spiritually rich people focus on what can be done for the master. They focus on what can be done for Jesus. The spiritually poor people focus on why it cannot be done. The spiritually rich people are constantly looking out for things they can do for God and territories they can take for Him. The spiritually poor people come up with very strong points why territories cannot be taken for Jesus and they usually have very cogent reasons. And such reasons always make me laugh. I remember sometime ago, in the church I used to pastor, we said that we were going to multiply the number of house fellowships existing by two. To a lot of people I am sure I sounded crazy. The spiritually rich people immediately said yes, we could do it. Then someone came to my office, sat me down, and gave me a list of all the reasons why this new bright idea was not going to work. I simply laughed and replied ‘watch it work’. And to the glory of God, it worked! The spiritually poor people will come and challenge you and your reasons for taking on a particular task for God. They will even go as far as pulling up your family history just to prove to you that no one from your lineage has ever achieved any such task. You should say to them ‘have you not heard, I will do the things that my father and my fathers father have not done before’. The spiritually rich see the possibility of what they can do for God. The spiritually poor will tell you why it cannot be done. The spiritually rich will ask how they can serve in church for instance. The spiritually rich will take a step further to appreciate the people behind the planning of every worship experience and ask what they can do to contribute. The spiritually poor choose to come and enjoy the worship experience alone and go. The spiritually poor do not bother about those kinds of things or they make remarks like ‘everything has been done already’. The truth is that if you look around you, there is still a lot to be done. ‘…and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed’ Joshua 13:1b.

Prayer: Father, help me keep my focus on the things that I need to do for Jesus. To never loose sight of seeking to please You first, in Jesus Name.
