Established in His Love III
‘See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know Him’ 1John3:1.
I was reading someone’s blog sometime back and he was sharing a conversation he had with his daughter while they were driving. He said he asked his daughter ‘does daddy love you’ she replied ‘yes’. Then he said ‘can you ever do anything to make daddy stop loving you’ and she said ‘no, there is nothing I can do to make daddy stop loving me’. He said her response made him very happy because it was a truth he wanted her to know no matter what. The truth that ‘there is nothing she can do to make daddy stop loving her’. Wow! For a lot of us, growing up, we did not have that kind of unconditional commitment from our parents. In fact the love that we experienced was based on our performance. Failing in class translated to trouble. It is good to discipline a child for poor performance. However when your love and commitment to that child are linked to his/her performance, you are wrecking that child. That is why a lot of us come to God and we think we have to perform for God to accept us. Jesus, on the cross of Calvary, has already done the only performance that was needed for God to accept us. Jesus’ performance is complete. So when we rest in God’s approval, not looking for the approval of men, we are growing roots. The truth is that when the affirmation we are looking for in others [spouses, colleagues, or employers] is replaced by the affirmation we already have in God, we have grown personal roots. You have to learn to receive the love of the Father. Some people are out to prove that God cannot love them. But guess what, God loves you regardless of what you did in the past. Don’t allow yourself get hooked on performance. Now I am sure you are asking what the justification is for praying or reading the Bible. It is simple ‘you do the things you do because you have received the love of God. You don’t do the things you do in order to receive the love of God’. If you have not received God’s love, you will receive God’s love today in Jesus Name.
Prayer: Father, I am confident that nothing can ever separate me from Your love. Thank You for crowning me in Your loving kindness and tender mercies, in Jesus Name.
