Grow Relational Roots V
‘Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest’ Prov.19:22
The sixth and final step to growing relational roots is to demonstrate loyalty. Wikipedia.com defines loyalty as ‘faithfulness or a devotion to a person, country, group, or cause’. ‘Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest’. Loyalty will grow your relational root. Loyalty is usually
seen as a virtue. Someone once said ‘loyalty might begin when the person you are loyal to is present but it remains even when the person is no longer present regardless of the state of your relationship’. In other words being loyal would mean not discussing your relationship with any other person, even if the person you have chosen to be loyal to hurts you. Demonstrating loyalty would mean proving your devotion to a particular person. For instance, the person of Jesus; does your loyalty end at Sunday service alone or do you remain loyal to Him even outside the church building. ‘A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need’ Prov.17:17.
God expects us to be loyal to Him. God said concerning Caleb ‘But my servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land’ Num.14:24. God established Caleb just because he was loyal to Him. Learn from Caleb and be loyal to God then watch Him establish you. Demonstrating loyalty grows your relational roots. I am loyal to Jesus. Are you loyal to Jesus? You have to be loyal to God. Times will come when you need to choose between Jesus and someone else; or Jesus and another philosophy; or Jesus and another idea; or Jesus and another principle; or Jesus and another way. Who do you choose? Who you choose determines where your loyalty really lies. Qualifying your relationship will help you place your loyalty where it belongs.
Prayer: Father, teach me now to stay loyal to You and the relationships you have brought me into, in Jesus Name.
