Irony of the Cross #1

‘They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!”’ Matt.27:29.

Halal means to display foolishness with affront. And one of the ways society responds to people they consider foolish is to mock them, ridicule them, or scorn them. When culture views you as foolish one of the ways they respond is to make fun of you. The cross is a classic example of hallelujah. Jesus hanging on the cross became a ‘fool for God’. Jesus even though He is God became a fool to be laughed at and to be jeered at.  To be a fool for God you will have to endure mockery, people are going to laugh at you and call you names because you are going against the norm [2 Sam.6:20]. There were several ironies around Jesus hanging on the cross and being a fool for God.

Irony # 1: The man who is mocked as king is actually King. What an irony. [Read Matt.27:27-31]. These were the same people who were shouting a few hours ago, ‘hosanna to the son of David, blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord’. Sometimes in our lives, the same people who sing your praises are the same people who will point accusing fingers at you. Strange, yet Jesus had to endure the same thing. He had to suffer in the hands of men. In those days when the criminals are about to be crucified, the charge against the prisoner is put on a sign and hung above the prisoner. On top of Jesus’ sign was inscribed ‘this is Jesus the king of the Jews’. When Pilate was told to change that inscription, his reply was that ‘what is written is written’. How ironic that He was being mocked as king but He was really King. Jesus had been proclaimed to be king from birth [Matt.2:2]. Many times in life you get mocked with the very challenge that is before you. Sometimes it is the voice on the inside of you and not people that is mocking you. Pay attention to the mockery and what people are mocking you for because in a lot of cases that is what God wants to do in your life. Do not waste your time being depressed instead know that it is a pointer to your prophetic destiny.

Prayer: Father, thank You because those who mock me today will testify to Your works in my life. Thank You for the victory disguised as a cross, in Jesus Name
