Faith Is… IV
‘It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac’ Heb.11:17
Looking at my life, there are many things that God had told me to do that just didn’t make sense at the time. My wife and I had two cars, one of the cars was like half a car and the other was the pride and joy of the family. One day I went to see one of my pastors who is a missionary and my eyes fell on his shoe, well lets just say it had seen better days. So I made up my mind that I was going to get him two pairs of very good shoes. After all how can a man of God be wearing such shoes. So as we were walking out of his hotel room, I heard God say ‘it is not shoes he needs, since you are so kind and generous, he needs a car’. Why didn’t I come with the other car, if that was the car God had asked for well it would have been painful still but it would have been easier. The truth is that God is not interested in what you can handle, God is more interested in what you can’t handle. So quickly I got to the office and asked for the car to be washed and serviced, I made sure everything was in order and I gave it. When I got home, my wife said to me ‘I did not hear your car, what happened to the car?’. I said ‘I gave it out’. My wife said ‘so you will make such a major decision without consulting me?’ What do you think would have happened if Abraham had said to Sarah ‘the God of heaven told me to go and kill our only son Isaac’. You will see the fight of a woman. She would have said ‘since your God is blood thirsty, it is not only Isaac you would sacrifice, sacrifice me too’. Abraham was very wise because he viewed sacrificing Isaac as between him and God. I didn’t tell my wife that though but I knew in my heart that I did the right thing and I was ready to face the consequences. I had to move around town with public transportation for about ten months even though now and then she would allow me drive the other car. And in God’s perfect time, He rewarded us. You cannot give to God and come out short but first you must obey His promptings to give even if you do not understand it.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace to know Your voice. I ask for the grace never to deny Your promptings and to obey Your voice when I hear it, in Jesus Name.
