The Power of Headship

‘Then God said to Abraham, “your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility’ Gen.17:9

Every man wants to be successful. There is no man really that does not want to be successful. In fact the craving of the heart of everyman is to be successful. But if we do not understand what success really means we will end up not being successful in our efforts to be successful. The best definition of success that I have come across is the one given by John Maxwell “you are successful when the people that know you the most and are closest to you respect you the most”. That is tougher than being a millionaire, believe me. If the people that know you the most and are closest to you respect you the most, then you are successful. So if you have all the money in the world and the people that are closest to you [your wife and children] do not respect you the most then you have not succeeded. When you have your priorities set then you need to begin to apply yourself where it matters most. This is why over the next few days our focus will be on the power of headship. If you are able to understand and deploy the power of headship you will be a true success. Everyone that lacks the power of headship becomes a figurehead. May you not be a figurehead. A figurehead is one who just bears a title but does not actually operate in the fullness of being a head. It is my prayer that this series challenges you as it challenged me, and changes your life as it changed mine.

In order to fully appreciate headship, it is important to understand the scriptural foundation of the man and woman relationship as it applies to headship. The man is the head of the woman – true or false? The correct answer is false. The man is not the head of the woman. I know this might come as a shock to you but what the Bible actually means is the husband is the head of His wife. These are two different things. The Bible translation said man but the real meaning translates to husband. We have a culture where every man thinks every woman is inferior to him but that is totally wrong and totally unscriptural. A man is the head of his wife and not the head of everywoman.

Prayer: Father, as You have pronounced me the head and not the tail, I ask that with this series You take me into the fullness of headship, in Jesus Name.
