Worship God!

‘Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, No don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you… who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship God. For the essence of prophecy is to give clear witness for Jesus’ Rev.19:10

‘Worship God. For the essence of prophecy is to give clear witness for Jesus. What the angel was actually saying is that the whole essence of prophecy is to lift up Jesus. The whole essence of all that the angel had shown John, the heart of it, was to lift up Jesus. So an angel of God will not accept worship but will point to the worship of Jesus. ‘Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud’ Col. 2:18. Angels are not to be worshipped. Worship happens in different ways, sometimes it is not that people just bow down their heads and claim to be worshipping one angel or the other. Sometimes, the worship is so subtle that it is in the place of preeminence. If you go to a place and the name or figure that is preeminent is not Jesus then the preeminent name or figure is what is being worshipped. But know that a true angel of God will say to you ‘Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy’.

The second thing you need to know in engaging angels is that we can address them but we are not to pray to angels. ‘Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve Him and do His will!Ps.103:20-21. Here, the psalmist is addressing the angels directly and telling them what to do. ‘Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise Him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven!Ps.148:1-2. In scripture, David will often say to the congregation of people ‘praise ye the Lord children of Israel’ and then David will say to the congregation of angels ‘praise ye the Lord, ye his hosts’. David was in touch with the spiritual. You can address angels but we are not to pray to them. It is so important that we understand that it is the person of Jesus that must be preeminent in our lives and in our worship.

Prayer [Song]: ‘I will praise You Lord; with every breath that I take I will praise You Lord, this promise I make. And when eternity comes, I’ll start all over again, even there I will praise You Lord’, in Jesus Name.
