Voice Of Logic

‘Aren’t the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than any of the rivers of Israel? Why shouldn’t I wash in them and be healed?” So Naaman turned and went away in a rage’ 2 kings 5:12

The third voice that Naaman experienced was the voice of logic – the voice of reason. In Naaman’s logical mind, there were rivers in Damascus that were far better than the rivers in Israel. If all he required was to be dipped and become clean then why was it necessary to come all the way to Israel? It did not make any sense to him. Many times God’s instruction does not align with your thinking. Naaman had a fair idea of how the healing process would play out. He expected that the prophet would ‘wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and’ the healing would take place. But guess what, God’s ways are not our ways. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughtsIsa.55:9 [KJV]. Years ago I learnt that one of the ways to walk with God peacefully is not to preempt God. This can be very difficult particularly for someone like me who is a strategist. And God dealt with me about it at different times. Don’t preempt God. It got to a point in my experience that as soon as I figure out a way that God will work then I know immediately that is not the way that God would work. You cannot walk with God with logic, it does not add up. It will never add up regardless of how educated or exposed you are. God will mess up your theory but He will still show you that He is God. The voice of logic is usually based on preferences. You have to be careful because preferences are strong. Be careful not to become a prisoner of your preferences. Some people are prisoners of their preferences. Some people are so caught up in their preference for a spouse that they cannot even see what God is doing. Some luckily realize that God’s ways are not our ways and they follow God’s leading. Yet others miss God because of their preferences. Don’t be a prisoner of your preferences. Yes God has promised to give you the desires of your heart but you cannot place them above God. God can choose to align work logically or contradict logic. Don’t let the voice of logic ruin your destiny.

Prayer: Father, be merciful unto me and do not let me reason away Your blessings. May I never derail from the path You have set before me because of my preferences, in Jesus Name.
