No One Gets Hurt?

‘Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives’ Gal.5:24-25.

Sadly, the notion that no one gets hurt has set people going off on various tangents and most times it is away from God. A lot of people today, even teenagers, want to know what is wrong with masturbation after all no one gets hurt. I have done extensive research on this subject and I will share those findings with you. Interestingly God has been silent on this particular subject. One school of thought says there is nothing on this subject in the Bible. Another school of thought points to Galatians 5:19-21 particularly the section that reads ‘and other sins like these’. They say masturbation is under the class of ‘other sins’. Some people say to me but the Bible says ‘Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might’ [Ecc.9:10]. I have heard that before! Pastors hear all sorts of things but believe me that scripture is not referring to masturbation. To answer the question, masturbation actually hurts you and the people you are in relationship with especially if you are married. Masturbating will hurt your sex life with your spouse because you can pleasure yourself. Intimacy helps you to achieve oneness with your spouse. Are you willing to sacrifice that? How does it hurt you? Lust! It is difficult to separate masturbation from lust. Pornography is usually the source and beginning of masturbation, which is a sin. Jesus said if you lust after a woman in your mind, you have committed adultery. You can’t separate the two. No one masturbates to the thought of tractors or the thought of homework. Again anything that makes you compulsive is not of God. You cannot concentrate at work or in school because all you are doing is thinking of how to excuse yourself, go to the bathroom and masturbate. Something is definitely wrong with that. ‘You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial1 Cor.10:23. Masturbation eventually ends up in addiction. Addiction is not of God except you are addicted to the Holy Ghost! Just leave masturbation alone!

Prayer: Father Lord, help me crucify every sinful passion and desire that is left in me. Teach me to live each day by following the leading of the Holy Spirit in every part of my life, in Jesus Name.
