Salvation vs. Deliverance
‘Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life’ John 8:12
A number of Christians both old and new are puzzled by the salvation versus deliverance subject. Some say, since knowledge is a form of deliverance then why do people need to go for deliverance? Others wonder if there is a difference between salvation and deliverance because the Word of God states that whom the Son of man sets free is free indeed. Some Christians will tell you that salvation is the ultimate covering for all things so there is actually no need for deliverance from past deeds.
The scripture states that people are destroyed because they lack knowledge. So saying that knowledge brings deliverance is right. Jesus says, ‘and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free’. To be set free is deliverance. So the greatest form of deliverance like Jesus rightly says is salvation that comes from the knowledge of the truth of the Word of God. And salvation of course that comes from the acceptance of Christ as Lord and Savior. The truth is that there is nothing you are going through now that you cannot obtain deliverance by the Word of God. The things in my life that God has set me free from have been by the Word of God. I cannot remember going for any deliverance session but I can remember that I have been delivered from many things. However, some cases require an extra intrusion. Some people need guidance on how to apply the Word or need someone in authority to break something someone in authority has spoken over then. In such cases perhaps but as a rule I would say the Word of God is all-powerful. But it is not that when you get saved everybody needs to get deliverance from the past. As you walk with God and fellowship with Him you will be delivered. God is light and when light comes darkness recedes. Yet people don’t want to fellowship with God because it requires putting things right in their lives. They would rather go for deliverance a hundred times rather than putting their life right and walking with God. And you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
Prayer: Father, let the light of Your presence break me free from bondage of the past. Let the truth in Your Word cut through every strong hold, in Jesus Name.
