Cleansing Effect
‘Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies- so the living should take this to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us’ Ecc.7:2-3
God is saying if you have two invitations, one to a funeral and the other to a wedding, then set the invitation to the funeral above that of the wedding. You will be instructed more if you go to the funeral. I struggled with this for a long time as a person because I just don’t like seeing people suffer. It crushes me and I am not able to bear it. Visiting the sick in the hospital is not my ministry but there are some people who are gifted to see people whose legs are suspended and they are fine. I cannot stand it at least for now. I have attended a couple of funerals; I must confess that they were the ones I really had to attend. And in truth each one has been so spiritually rewarding. I tend to stand back and just look at the different types of people that are at the funeral. Some people are there just for show, some were even enemies of the deceased, and then the people who are actually grieving. Most of these experiences result in a conversation with God. I say to God that everybody is going to go this way if Jesus tarries. When I am gone and being buried I just want three words put on my epitaph. I am praying that those words will be ‘he pleased God’. And anybody that passes by my graveside, if Jesus tarries, will see those three words. And when I get to heaven all I want to hear is one word ‘well-done’.
If you are able to have such refining experiences it will shape your life and your decisions. It will shape everything about your values. The things that a lot of us kill ourselves for when we put them in light of eternity, do they really matter? In a hundred years from now will the blouse or car he bought for you after he slept with you matter? When you put things in light of eternity everything begins to fall into perspective. People will wonder how come you are not stressed or even perturbed. It is because there is nothing we brought into this world and it is certain that we can take nothing out of this world. Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us’ Ecc.7:3. Place your priorities in light of eternity daily.
Prayer[song]: Order my steps in Your word dear Lord, lead me, guide me everyday, send Your anointing, Father I pray; order my steps in Your word, please, order my steps in Your word.
