Shalom
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God’ Matt.5:9 [NIV]
Jesus is saying you cannot call yourself a child of God and be causing trouble everywhere you go. Jesus is saying you cannot say you are a child of God when consistently the trouble in your family can be traced back to you. You cannot call yourself a child of God when the trouble or gossip in your department constantly originates at your desk. Jesus is saying you cannot call yourself a child of God and be the architect or incubator of pandemonium. It is the peacemakers that will be called the children of God. The truth is that almost everybody wants peace. I said ‘almost’ because I know not everybody wants peace. We want peace in our homes, peace in our finances, peace in our health, and peace in our minds. Peace is so crucial that even the Jews greet themselves with the word shalom, meaning peace be unto you. A lot of people in our world today are chasing after peace. Some people call it happiness so you often hear statements like ‘I want to be happy’. But what they are really longing for is peace of mind.
God tells us repeatedly in scriptures that when the end comes nations will rise up against nations, we will hear of wars and rumors of wars. Globally there really cannot be peace until the Prince of Peace comes. A writer once said talking about global peace that “peace is merely that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stops to reload their weapons”. If you see global peace, you know that everybody is stocking up again so that they can fight. But for us children of God, it is different. ‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace’ Isaiah 9:6 [KJV]. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth there will be peace in your homes this season. There will be peace in your finances, peace in your businesses, peace in your health, and you will have peace of mind. No peace without Jesus.
Prayer: Father, amidst the global and local unrest let the peace of the Prince of Peace be evident in my family, job, finances, education, and decisions, in Jesus Name.
