Profitable Walk
‘Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come’ 1 Tim.4:8
Is it not interesting that God prescribes exercising in His Word? Working out in a gym, at home, or engaging in any kind of physical exercise is a great thing to do and I strongly recommend it. I like to play football to keep myself fit. However, even though physical training is good, our physical bodies are restricted to this side of eternity irrespective of how fit they may be. This body is a temporary tent for our life here on earth. Yet God recommends training for godliness as much better because it promises benefits in this life and in the life to God. In other words, you need to train yourself in godliness. Godliness is the very nature of God and God is Love. Godliness is profitable both now and in eternity. Love is more profitable than material provision. Love is more profitable than that job you are holding above your fellow human being. Love is more profitable than that car or house you are idolizing. Training in love is more important than everything you have used as an excuse up until now to forsake the things of God. All these things will fade in this life, but love endures through this life and into the next -forever. ‘And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?’ Matt.16:26. You will agree with me that it is wisdom to practice and hold on to love that profits us much.
Walking in love is profitable to your health. Scientists and doctors have discovered that the state of our health is strongly linked to the state of our heart. This is why unforgiveness [an illness of the heart] usually manifest in people’s physical and spiritual health. Some unanswered prayers can be traced to unforgiveness [Mark 11:23-24]. When you love, forgiveness comes easy. You cannot continue to allow offense rob you of your health. Forgive, walk in love and God will heal you and make you whole. God wants us to walk in love because it is profitable to our physical and our spiritual wellbeing. ‘A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love…’ John 13:34.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to see how temporary this life is that I may love to profit me both now and in eternity, in Jesus Name.
