Salvation And Discipleship
‘Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples’ John 13:35.
Walking in love is proof of your salvation and proof that you are a disciple of Christ Jesus. Love is also the stamp that confirms that you are genuinely born again. ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love…’ Gal.5:22. Love is the first fruit of the regenerate spirit. What a regenerate spirit simply means is your spirit was dead when you were in the world’s sinful way, but when you gave your life to Christ, God renewed that spirit. You become dead to the previous sinful nature and born anew. God is love, so the new spirit He gives you has love engraved in its DNA. However, you and I are still required to grow this love because the Bible calls it a fruit of the Spirit. We must submit ourselves daily to the Holy Spirit and allow Him grow love in us.
So if you say you are born again and you do not have the fruit of love then it is one of two things. It is either you need to check if you are really born again or be more submitted to the Holy Spirit. ‘If someone says, “I love God”, but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a lair; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command: those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters’ 1John 4:20-21. The child of a Lion will always look like and act like a lion. If you are a child of God, then love is in you. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit ‘shed abroad love in our hearts’. So the day you were born again, the Holy Spirit registered you for the love walk. Love is already in you. It is your first nature and not your second nature. Are you allowing love shape your life or are you allowing the circumstances and the situations of the world to shape your life. Love should shape our lives because it is what guarantees our eternity. Loving does not come easy but God has given us the grace and the strength to complete this walk. Keep moving forward; don’t be sidetracked by the difficulties people will throw your way. Take the advice of Apostle Paul and “press on’. It’s not a weekly or even daily walk; you have to love by the second.
Thought: Choose to love. Take appropriate actions that reveal your love for God and for man
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I invite you afresh into my love walk. Grow me in loving God and man and help me bear fruits of love, in Jesus Name.
