Check Your Readiness I
‘For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. [Absolute and total submission – my addition]. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.’ Eph.5:22 &24
Ladies let’s check your readiness. ‘For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. [Absolute and total submission – my addition] For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of His body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.’ Eph.5:22-24. So again I ask, are you ready for that kind of submission? A lady was complaining that her husband doesn’t make good decisions. She said he always makes daft and dumb decisions as if he is indolent in the brain. My response to her was but he decided to marry you! If you are so smart and he is smart enough to marry you, then it means the man is a smart person but you just don’t appreciate him. God based a woman’s submission on only one condition and that is if he is your husband. So your submission has nothing to do with whether he makes the right or wrong decisions. God says submit! It is an instruction and not a suggestion.
I have seen a lot of young ladies and submission is not in their dictionary. Their attitude is ‘I have a PhD, you have a BSc, why am I submitting to you?’ ‘I came into this marriage with two cars why should I submit to you’. ‘You moved into my apartment’. Yes, you own the apartment and the two cars and he moved in but, guess what, he is the head. I know some women will struggle with this but it is the truth and God says submit. If you are ready for that then you are ready to get married. If you are struggling with that then you need to deal with rebellion, as some people will like to call it. Every married man at one point or another has nursed the feeling or is nursing the feeling that his wife is rebellious and could respect him more. The point is this, men will always feel that way sometimes but Jesus says ‘For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her’ Eph.4:25. God is a saying husband – you should love your wife.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace to love my spouse without conditions. Help me not to base my love for him/her on his/her performance, in Jesus Name.
