Consistently Choose
‘Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love’ 1 Cor.13:13
Love and sex are marathons. They are not sprints -they are marathons. Some people have a level they want to get to in their sexuality with their spouse and they want to achieve it on day one. That is not the way to go about it because you will hurt yourself and you will hurt your relationship. Sometimes, some things take time. You grow in loving your wife. As a man I had to learn, and you will have to learn also, that I had to choose my wife again and again. Beyond me choosing my wife on the day we got married and declaring before the congregation of God that I have chosen her to be my wife, I learnt that that is not the only time I would choose my wife. I have to choose my wife daily over myself. Sometimes I am selfish, I want to do stuff that will please myself but I am learning that I have to choose my wife over myself. I am learning that I have to consistently choose my wife over other women. You think because you went to the altar, you have chosen your wife? You will have to consistently choose your wife over every other woman. So you meet a woman that is pretty and you feel attracted to her. Big deal. It is an opportunity to choose. And at such times what I do is I choose my wife again. The truth is that you will meet someone that you are attracted to whether you like it or not. But the difference is that you see it as a golden opportunity to choose your spouse again.
I learnt that I have to keep choosing my wife over and over again. I choose her when I get advances from other women. The choosing does not end and that is the beauty of it. A lot of us have chosen our spouses but we have not learnt to keep choosing and keep choosing them because we think that it is automatic. It is not automatic. You have to keep choosing your spouse. The truth is that the grass sometimes appears greener on the other side. But the reality is that when you get closer to that grass you will find that it is not greener. The grass is only greener where it is watered. So water your own grass.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace, strength, and wisdom to consistently choose my husband/wife daily, in Jesus Name.
