True Repentance I

“I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan replied, “Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won’t die for this sin. Nevertheless, because you have shown utter contempt for the Lordby doing this, your child will die.” 2Sam.12:13-14.

God was pained about David’s sin and the effects of his attempts to cover the sin. So God sent Nathan to confront him. Nathan confronted David, David repented and God assured him that he had been forgiven but God still punished him. [Please read 2Sam.12:7-14]. David sinned, David repented, God forgave him, but God still punished him. To whom much is given, much is expected. Permit me to illustrate; a man commits adultery with a lady that has H.I.V. He gets infected. He repents of the adultery and God forgives him. But what will happen to the H.I.V? If he dies, he will not go to hell because God has forgiven but he will suffer the effects of the H.I.V while he is alive. Many people are carrying spiritual H.I.V in their souls and spirits. There are in captivity of because they think they can ask for forgiveness and that’s it. People say, ‘David committed adultery and God forgave him. God is a God of second chances so God will forgive me too’. Yes He will but are you ready for the scars? If God loves you, He will flog you. God said to David, ‘because you made people laugh at My name, I will deal with you’. And He gave him three punishments, not for him to choose from. But God gave him three punishments and three of them came to pass. Firstly, the fruit of David and Bathsheba’s union would die – the child died. Secondly, God said the sword would not leave David’s house. David saw his sons kill themselves and his son rape his sister. Thirdly, God said “I will give your wives to another man[God did not tell him who so that he won’t kill the person]before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view. You did it secretly, but I will make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel” 2 Sam.12:11-12. And his son did it, put a mattress in the same place David saw Bathsheba, and slept with David’s wives and Israel was watching. Did God not forgive him? This is the same David that God loves so much. Don’t deceive yourself that you are David. If you are then get ready for the lashing. A lot of people don’t understand that the fact that you are forgiven does not mean you will not face the consequence of your sin.

Thought: Is there anything in your life that will bring shame to the name of Jesus? Deal with it today before God.

Prayer: Father, may I never do anything that will bring disgrace to the Name of Jesus, in Jesus Name.
