A Father’s Love
‘And the king gave this command to Joab, Abishai, and Ittai: “For my sake, deal gently with young Absalom”. And all the troops heard the king give this order to his commanders’ 2 Sam.18:5
‘Now Absalom was praised as the most handsome man in all Israel. He was flawless from head to foot. He cut his hair only once a year, and then only because it was to heavy…’ 2Sam.14:25-26. God set Absalom up and while he was chasing David, that same hair that was his glory was what hung him on a tree. Every time you chase your father, the same thing that brought glory to you will hang you. David understood this and that is why he couldn’t touch Saul even when he found Saul asleep. He said, “Who will touch him and be guiltless”. Absalom said, “I will chase you and I will kill you”. The same thing that was his glory hung him on a tree.
Before the battle began, David had called all his soldiers and commanded, “For my sake, deal gently with young Absalom”. I can see the agony of his heart. He knew how brutal his men were. David usually would give instructions to his generals and the generals will pass it down to the soldiers. But this time, David called everyone together and gave instructions to everyone. One of the soldiers saw Absalom dangling and dying and reported to Joab. When Joab discovered that the man didn’t kill Absalom, Joab ‘took three daggers and plunged them into Absalom’s heart’ [2Sam.18:14]. Everybody needs a Joab. There are certain Absaloms you cannot kill by yourself but they have determined to kill you. May God raise a Joab for you. Some people don’t want to receive this prayer because they still don’t want Absalom to die. It is also possible that you are unable to connect with today’s teaching. Just book mark the page because you are going to grow great and you will need it later. When David heard what had happened, he burst into tears and mourned Absalom.
In leadership, the attitude of the leader affects everybody else. Leaders we have to be careful, you are carrying a lot of weight. I know that you are carrying things that if the people around you knew about they will be more sensitive to you. They wont just open their mouths and say rubbish but they don’t know. Yet it is still your duty to maintain the right atmosphere in your house, in your office, and in your domain.
Prayer: Father, raise a Joab for me so that the Absaloms in my life will be completely destroyed, in Jesus Name.
