No Repentance, No Restoration!

‘Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you’ Ps.51:12.

The third reason David almost lost that battle is; restoration without repentance will always lead to regret. Absalom was not repentant at all. He still felt slighted that the king would deal with him the way he did. He didn’t see what he had done wrong. “Amnon raped my sister for crying out loud and I killed him. So bloody what?” No repentance. Leaders take note, when you restore someone that has not repented; you are setting yourself up for trouble. This applies to you whether you are running a business or a family. Everybody is a leader in one capacity or the other. Your house help is always trying to seduce your husband. You warned her but she didn’t repent. Note that people can change their behavior without repenting. You know she didn’t repent and you left her in the house. Your house help has been stealing, you caught her and she didn’t repent. You say “but I really need help in the house”. Excuse me! Go and live abroad, they don’t have house helps and they survive.

Lets say I get dressed upstairs but it is when I am on my way out the door that I remember that I have not put on my perfume. I usually don’t want to go back upstairs just to spray perfume. So I put a perfume bottle downstairs for convenience. So that on the days I forget, I spray that one and head out. One day I noticed that the perfume bottle was no longer there. And naturally, I mentioned it to my wife and she pointed out who had taken it. I had my reservations but by the time she was done with her search and investigation, lo and behold she was right. The person instead of repenting went in the other direction and started trying to prove innocence. It was at this point that I had to point out a few truths to the parties involved. And the conversation flipped into an appeal; I stopped and listened to everything they had to say. But in all that transpired, the person still did not own up. People must have thought I was being difficult when I chose to cut off access. But it is because I know these truths. Watch out for people that don’t repent, if you restore them, they can kill you. Don’t do it.

Prayer: Father, may I not be blinded by self righteousness. Help me to truly repent as You lead me to, in Jesus Name.
