Guard Against III

Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.1Tim.6:18.

Every terrain comes with its own challenges and being rich is not left out. Even as the Lord continues to increase us, you and I must guard against being distracted from our true priorities. Riches give us the power to create options and many times those options are outside of God’s will. A typical example would be a man who tells his wife that even though he loves her, he needs her to know that he has options. And the reason is because she no longer looks like the woman he married. What has changed? He can now afford to rendezvous with another woman in another country while his wife is at home thinking he has gone for a training program. One man actually asked me to show him where it is written in the Bible that a man cannot marry a second wife. This same man had a totally different attitude when he was trusting God for riches. He would come to my office with his wife and they would pray for hours. Yet now all he can think of is marrying a second wife. This is when you hear statements like “If Abraham the father of faith did it, then who am I?”

I know another couple that were boarder line comfortable. And the wife insisted she did not want God to bless her husband beyond what they had. She did not want to be poor, all she wanted was for God to help them maintain their current level. What was her reason? She said she knows that if her husband becomes rich, he would misbehave. She believes he is a good man and she loves him. So her thoughts were that God should keep him down so that we can enjoy life together. I had to encourage her that we would pray for him that God will help him. But when she left I thought that perhaps she might be right because some people do not have capacity. So I pray for you in the Name of Jesus, that God will give you the capacity for wealth and the capacity to love God more than wealth. David did not commit adultery when he was in the wilderness, or when he was running from Saul, or when he was fighting battles. David committed adultery when he was in the palace. Options – he opted to stay back while everybody was going to battle – “Big boy” – recipe for destruction. Why is God leading you down this path? Simple, it is because God wants to bless you but God loves you more than your money.

Prayer: Father, as You bless me, enlarge my capacity for wealth and my capacity to love You more than silver or gold, in Jesus Name.
