Glad Tidings

‘Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people’ Luke 2:10 [NKJV]

In this season and always, we trust that the Lord Jesus Himself will breathe upon us Himself. We thank God for Christmas. Christmas is a very fantastic time of the year. A lot of us get the buzz of Christmas then after a while we loose the buzz of Christmas. For some other people, they do not even understand what Christmas is all about. And the question that arises is, what is the big deal about Christmas?. What is the big deal about Christmas anyway? In the culture that we are in, we struggle to consistently answer this question to ourselves and to our friends both sincere seekers of Jesus and the critics. We need to consistently understand what the big deal is about Christmas. The big deal about Christmas is the relevance of Christmas, the reason for Christmas, and the result of Christmas.

The relevance of Christmas is simply God came to the earth as a human being. God, the Maker of the heavens and the earth came to the earth as a human being. He took on the body of man and became fully man. He could be slapped and he was slapped. He could be abandoned and he was abandoned. He could be betrayed and He was betrayed. He could be spat at and He was spat at. He needed to pay tax and He was taxed. God, the Maker of the heavens and the earth, became man and lived on earth. That is the relevance of Christmas. The relevance of Christmas is that God became man so that God can understand you and I. God became a man so that He can be relevant to you and I. It was a big deal when man went to the moon for the first time, landed and put the flag of the country that sponsored the trip. But it is an even bigger deal that God, the Maker of the heavens and the earth, left the throne, came to earth and planted a flag in our hearts. That flag is the presence of the Spirit of God. ‘Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creationCol.1:15. So why did Jesus have to come as a baby? He could have come as a king and it will still be humility on God’s path. But He came as a baby because His reason was to save us and not to scare us. Jesus came as a baby because He did not come to oppress us, He did not come to frighten us, but He came to save us.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for giving it all up just for me. Sweet Jesus, thank You for the relevance of Christmas, in Jesus Name.
