He Questions

“Herod was delighted at the opportunity to see Jesus… and had been hoping for a long time to see him perform a miracle. He asked Jesus question after question, but Jesus refused to answer” Luke 23:8-9.

For some of us, the questions are not coming from us but rather the questions are directed at us. People are asking us very daft questions. Is it because you didn’t pray enough that you didn’t get the job? – daft question. Was it because you didn’t fast enough that you didn’t get the promotion? – daft question. Is it because your parents have done some terrible things that you are unmarried? – daft question. Listen; know without a doubt, your life is for the glory of God. Declare it before heaven and earth, “My life is for the glory of God”. Could people’s sins cause problems? Yes they can; but to assume that a situation is as a result of sin is daft. Jesus was bombarded with many of such [daft] questions. For instance in Matthew 21:23-27, the Pharisees came to Jesus and demanded, “By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?” In other words, who is your spiritual father Jesus? – tell us. Jesus said before I answer your very daft question, I would ask you a question. “By whose authority was John the Baptist preaching?” And they gathered together and deliberated, if we say that John’s authority was from God, Jesus will ask us why we didn’t believe John [because they were antagonistic of John also]. If we say John’s teaching is of man, the people will stone us because the people believed John was from God. So they came to Jesus and said, “we don’t know. And Jesus responded, “Then I won’t tell you by what authority I do these things”. Don’t you just love Jesus? The Bible says Herod asked Jesus question after question and Jesus did not answer any. Maybe to fulfill the Scripture that says as a lamb that was led to its slaughter, He didn’t utter a word [Isa.53:7].

Over the next few days we will be looking at the questions Jesus was asked and a few of the questions Jesus answered. Then we will delve deeper into when Jesus, The Answer, asks you a question. That is definitely an interesting twist to things. The motive of the people in John 6 [Please read] was questionable. Like some of us, they came to Jesus saying, ‘I just want to be where you are, dwelling daily in your presence. I don’t want to worship from afar, draw me near to where you are. I want to be where you are, dwelling in your presence, feasting at your table…’ Do you know the song? ‘Feasting at your table’ is where they were going to all along. So like Jesus asked them, He is asking you and I today. Why do you really want to be with Me? Is it because I fed you bread, or is it the breakthrough I gave you, is it the promotion or the life partner I just gave you, or because you want to satisfy the guilty feeling? Why do you want to be with Me? You need to realign your desire to be with Jesus. Just be with Him because of Him and not because of bread.

Prayer [song]: In Your Presence I am content (2x). In Your Presence there is light. Expressions of Your life, revelations of Your power and might. In Your Presence I can bring, my love song offering, I’m in the presence of my King.
