Dangerous Logic
“The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!” 2 Kings 7:2
The third thing that makes us doubt the reliability of Jesus is our logic. Please read John 20:24-30. This is the story of Thomas. Thomas was not present when the resurrected Christ showed Himself to His disciples. When he returned, Jesus had left. “They told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side” John 20:25. Thomas couldn’t believe it because it didn’t make logical sense. Many of us are in the same place as Thomas; it just doesn’t make any sense. God expects you to make a move but you are saying to God, ‘this doesn’t make sense’. Logic can limit you especially with God. There was a very severe famine in the land, so bad that people were eating their children. It’s easy to just breeze past this but stop for a minute and imagine people having to eat their own children. God forbid! So the man of God comes and says, “thus saith the Lord, by this time tomorrow, there would be surplus”. “The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!” 2kings7:2. The officer was saying in essence, think about it Elisha – man of God. Don’t start telling lies just because the king said he would kill you. It is dangerous to put logic in God’s face. When you put logic in the face of God, you are putting yourself in a place where you are actually going to see it happen but you may not benefit from it. But I’m praying that you will see it and benefit from it. There are things I have said to you over the past few days like, God can reverse you from a fifty year old to a thirty year old; some doubted it because of logical thinking. Do not put your logic in the way of the power of the Holy Spirit. It may not make any sense but guess what? That is why He is God. Jesus is reliable.
The material a substance is made up of determines its strength and reliability. The chair is as strong as the material it is made from. When you bring something that surpasses the strength of the chair, it will collapse. With a house and a car, it is the same thing. Everything that is reliable cannot go beyond its content. “But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man” John2:24-25. The problem a lot of us have is that we don’t know men.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, grow me in the things of God. Lord, take me beyond every limitation logic has formed in my mind and help me to be discerning, in Jesus Name.
