Building Blocks
“Build for me an altar… and offer your sacrifices to me… Build my altar wherever I cause my name to be remembered, and I will come to you and bless you” Ex.20:24
There are two major factors when it comes to building an altar. There are other factors of course but there are two main factors. When it comes to building an altar the first factor is Faith and the second factor is Sacrifice.
The Faith Factor: “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him” Heb11:6. The Word of God says, he that comes before God must believe that He is, He exists. Let us take the simple altar of praying. I gave the illustration of how I build an altar with my prayer walk. When I step out of my gate, I believe in my heart with all the cells of my body that as I step out of my gate, God opens the heavens and attends to me. I believe that! If you do not believe it, you cannot sustain it. Some of us have abandoned altars- altars that are gathering cobwebs. But today, those altars are going to catch fire in Jesus Name. Some of us start by building an altar to God on an issue. We sow towards the issue and we pray towards the issue. Then after a while, we forget or we just don’t believe. God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. If you get what I am teaching you today and I pray you will, your life will totally change and it will totally separate you from the pack.
He that comes to God must believe; the faith factor is the first factor in building an altar because when you build an altar, it can appear foolish. Build it, maintain it, and sustain it. When the testimonies come, you will know that it was not foolishness after all.
The Sacrifice Factor: “When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. Abel also brought a gift—the best of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected” Gen.4:3-5. As far as recorded scripture is concerned, this was the first altar that was raised to God. What was playing out here is simple. Adam and Eve had taught their children that the altar is the meeting place with God. Build an altar, bring a sacrifice, and put it on the altar. When God comes and consumes the sacrifice, He attends to you. Take note, this was before the law. So the people that say the Old Testament is the law, this was far before the law. That is the nature of the God that we serve.
Prayer: Father, in line with Your Word, as I build and service my altars in this season, let it please You to meet with me, make Your Name known, and bless me, in Jesus Name.
