As Unto God

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” Col.3:23-24 [NIV]

The Lord said to Jesus when He was being baptized, this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. It is only God that can see man and be well pleased, only God! Man sees you but his focus is on “your flaws” and so he is not well pleased. But God sees you, God knows you, and God still loves you. He is totally well pleased in you. Since I know the only person I can please is God, I serve you as your Pastor as unto God. Some people cannot even say a kind word to me, talk less of sending me a text message, and talk less of a card. If I rely on that to be happy I will be the most miserable person on earth. Meaning I will serve you with all my heart regardless of what you give or don’t give me because I am doing it as unto the Lord. “As unto the Lord” is stress free living!

When you do not know who you are trying to please, three things begin to happen.

#1 Criticism: When you don’t know who you are trying to please, your focus turns to what everybody else is going to think about you. And you become subject to criticism or you begin to criticize people because you give what you have.

#2 Competition: When you do not know who you are to please you are subject to competition because you are worried whether somebody else is better than you or is getting ahead of you. When you do not know who you are and who you are trying to please, when somebody prays beside you, you become intimidated. You begin to struggle with thoughts like, I can pray better than him or her. Who cares? When you do not know who you are and who you are trying to please, when some in the choir is singing and just worshipping God all that consumes you is that you can do better. Meanwhile, you have not ever indicated interest in becoming a part of the workforce or make the sacrifice to serve yet. It is simply because you do not know who you are and who you are trying to please so you are subject to competition.

#3 Conflicted: When you do not know who you are to please you are conflicted. And because you do not know who you are trying to please you get conflicted when somebody disagrees with you. People can disagree with you and people do not have to agree with you. When you do not know who you are and who you are trying to please you see disagreement as rejection.

Prayer: Father, please empower me to do all things as unto You and not for humans, and help me to work at it with all my heart, in Jesus Name.
