Sincere Heart I
“For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened” Matt.7:8
People look at me and think I have faith but personally I can give you several examples of doubts I have had. My faith is usually a result of my doubts. I doubted the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Before I got saved in my final year of university, I had seen all sorts of born again people. I even heard about people that teach others how to speak in tongues. So when I got saved I just did not want to touch the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I was not interested because I doubted. I said God thank You for saving me, thank You for cleansing me from my sins but can You please leave me out of this experience? I do not want to be a loony. My doubts were sincere and God saw it. Every time in fellowship or in church they call for people that want to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, my response usually was you cannot catch me. But as I read the Word of God, interestingly I became hungry. I was doubtful but I was hungry, I wanted more of God. Then I began to desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Then one day while reading a book, Tongues of fire by Bishop Wale Oke Adetayo, the author said just stop and ask God to fill you. I stopped and said God if you are going to fill me with the Holy Spirit it is now. And I began to speak in tongues uncontrollably. I probably spoke in tongues till morning. Then somebody will come and tell me it is fake? Well perhaps yours is fake but what I have received is not fake at all. God has promised, everyone that asks receives. If only you will approach God with sincerity. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not for special people, God is not a respecter of persons. If you will approach God with sincerity because that is usually what is different with a lot of people.
Great faith was born in my life out of great doubt. In fact close to cynical doubt. Now I cannot count the number of people we have ministered the baptism of the Holy Spirit to. I literarily cannot count. I remember while serving [NYSC], I had these group of students, they were not believers and they did not want to hear anything about the baptism of the Holy Spirit because of how they have been indoctrinated. So I made a deal with them, to answer every question they had from the Bible and in exchange they would believe God and they agreed. And God helped us we answered all their questions about the infilling of the Holy Spirit. By the time we finished, I did not lay hands on anyone of them but they began to speak in tongues. The room caught fire. That great faith which ministered itself in the midst of a large group of people was born out of doubt.
Prayer [song]: Lord I thirst for You. And I long to be in Your Presence. My soul will wait on You. Father draw me near, draw me nearer to the beauty of Your holiness. Amen
