In The Name

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing” Gen12:2 [KJV, emphasis added]

Diverse people introduce themselves differently and very often by the various titles they have acquired. The desire to establish greatness and stamp our authority drives us to seek titles. This is why you find people whose only pleasure and life’s purpose is to become a Chief, a Reverend, an Evangelist, or a Bishop so that they can quote that title as an authority stamp. There is a legal craving in man that God has put there, a touch of greatness. However, this is what men seek to find expression for in titles. You see men of God who are not recognized [introduced] by their titles grind meetings to a halt because their titles are not acknowledged. At such meetings, sometimes, you can almost feel God walk out. When all men see is their titles, it becomes a problem.

God did not promise to make your title great. God promised to make your name great. In other words, God wants your name alone and not your title to define your greatness. God wants to make your name so great that where ever your name is mentioned doors will open of their own accord. Concerning Jesus, the Bible says “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” Phil.2:9-11 [NIV, emphasis added]. Take note, it is not at the title of Jesus that knees bow but at the Name of Jesus. You do not confront a situation and say I come against you by High Priest Jesus or Founder Jesus. You address situations in the Name of Jesus. God wants your name to command respect in Heaven and on earth and beneath the earth. God wants to make your name your authority stamp because that is His promise to you in His Word, “I will make your name great”. The Lord said to David and I believe He is saying the same to you today, “I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth2 Sam.7:9. Your name is what God is after and not your title. Stop focusing so much on titles and take pleasure in the name God has given you because it is your prophetic destiny. For some of us reading this today, our name does not align with God’s plan for us and as such has become a limiting factor. Prayerfully go to God and ask Him to give you a new name.

Prayer: Father Lord, I ask that it will please You to make my name great like the names of the greatest men on earth, men that pleased You, in Jesus Name.
