Keys To Effortless Worship IV
“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little” Phil.4:11-12
I know what it is to fast and have nothing but a snack to break my fast. But I eat it and I am happy and nobody knows. Many times the reason our hearts are not flowing with worship is because of discontentment. Paul is saying I know what it is not to have anything and I know what it is to have a lot of things. But whether I have a lot or I do not have a lot, I have learnt to be content because stuff does not fill you, only God can fill you. Stuff cannot fill you, it is only God that can fill you. A new shoe, a new dress, a new hat, a new blazer, a new car, or a new house; you will discover very quickly that stuff cannot fill you.
One of the major contenders of worship in the heart of the church is materialism. We are not content. John Piper says, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied [content] in Him”. The height of worship flows when we are most satisfied in God. So the purpose of worship is to enjoy God. You cannot enjoy God when you are dissatisfied with your life and this has nothing to do with your bank account. You cannot enjoy God when you are dissatisfied with your marriage. Regardless of what you are going through, thank him. Be content. C.S. Lewis puts it this way, “We delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment.” If you enjoy your marriage, you will discover that you are always talking about your wife or your husband right? Yes if you hardly talk about your wife or your husband something is wrong. If you enjoy your children you will mostly be talking about your children. Why because the praise does not only express the enjoyment it completes the enjoyment. Similarly, when we delight to praise God not just because we enjoy God because if you do not enjoy God you cannot praise God. Praise does not just express your enjoyment it completes the enjoyment.
So a heart of worship is a grateful heart, a joyful heart, a carefree heart, and a content heart. God wants us to have worship as our life style. So how do we make worship our life style? Since we have taken time to prepare our hearts; we have resolved to be more grateful to God, to be more joyful, to worry less, to be carefree, and to be content. But how can you and I develop a life style of worship? Three things; commit to weekly worship with other Christians, schedule fixed times with God, and intersect your daily routines with your passion for God. We will delve deeper into these three things but first let us go before God today with a grateful, joyful, carefree, and content heart.
Prayer [song]: I’ve come to say how much I love you I’ve come to say how much I adore you Lord I’m not here to complain About my many problems By your spirit and your grace I’m confident you’ll solve them. I’m here, to say I love you… Amen!
