Love Endures

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”  1Cor.13:13 [NIV, emphasis added].

Go to God with the disappointments you feel in your relationships. However, in cases of character flaws, God says make allowances. For some people, the allowance might require you standing up to fill a gap in your relationship for a season. And in some other cases, it may mean a temporary separation until the other person is able to take responsibility for those errors and correct them. However, it does not mean you should give up on the relationship altogether because you never know what God can do. Sometimes the relationship never survives but God says give allowances.

And sometimes the disappointment is nobody’s fault. It is just because the world is broken. For instance, two people get married and the man has been providing for the home. Then for some reason, the man gets involved in an accident, is crippled and becomes confined to a wheel chair. That family is in jeopardy. The wife endures for three months and then quits the marriage relationship. This world is broken; things happen but love endures, love perseveres. Sometimes disappointment is not anybody’s fault.

Disappointments happen because of our own faulty expectations. For instance, disappointment is bound to happen when we insist on seeking for perfection where it is not possible. There is nothing like a perfect marriage. Anyone that has been married for any length of time will tell you that. There is no perfect honeymoon because that is usually where you have your first real fight caused by differences. Nothing is perfect. This world is broken. But love suffers long. Love endures.

Sometimes it is something totally different that causes the disappointments. I typically do not fall ill but on our honeymoon, I had malaria. It was so bad I was hospitalized. But my wife responded so well. Even after the malaria had gone, I still pretended as if I was ill so I could enjoy more pampering. Am I the only one that does that? Even though this happened for just a third of the whole period but that could have messed up the whole thing because of how we responded to it. What I am saying is things happen but love endures.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me not to be ruled by what I can see but fill me with love that endures, no matter what, in Jesus Name.
