Love Works I

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”  1 Cor. 13:7 [emphasis added]

God wants us to understand that relationships, particularly covenant relationships, can be very tough. But at the end of the day, love overcomes all things. I once saw a video of a couple that grew old together in marriage. Along the line, the woman became ill even to the point of not recognizing the husband. But that man stayed fully committed to loving his wife. Only love can take you through such situations and keep you there everyday. “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”  I Cor. 13:7 [emphasis]. In real life you will face real disappointments but love endures through every circumstance. So what is that huge disappointment that you feel? Go to God with your disappointment and watch God do a miracle.

#3. TRUST GOD WITH YOUR FEELINGS: What about the situations when you do not feel hurt, or anger, or disappointment? What do you do in situations where you are in a state of apathy [numb], a state where you do not feel anything? What you do in such situations is to trust God with your feelings. Recognize that when you do not feel anything, you have a God that can be trusted with your feelings. “Trust God all the time. Tell Him all your problems, because God is our protection” Ps.62:8 [NCV]. Be honest with God about not feeling anything. “…we can trust God to do what He promised”  Heb.10:23 [NCV].

Write the word “Love” in your journal. Then answer this question; is love a feeling or an action? The truth is, it is both feeling and action. When the feeling is there, the action is effortless. But sometimes the feelings go away. So what do we do when the feeling is not there? What do you do when you have been married for twelve years and you no longer feel anything for your spouse? What you do is you use your head. You do the right things and your heart will follow. Take actions in love and watch the feelings come back. You do not feel… just do. To become, you have to do. And that is not being hypocritical because faith works by love. Faith calls the things that be not as though they were.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, in my relationships, help me to act in faith and trust You with my feelings, in Jesus Name.
