His Voice
Heb.1:1-2 “Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son…”
It is very humbling to hear the voice of God. One of the most abused statements that I have come across as a person is, “God told me to do xyz”. I do not think a lot of people appreciate how dangerous it is to make such a bold claim. This statement, in my opinion, is one of the most misunderstood statements and it can be extremely manipulative. When someone comes to me as a Pastor and says, “God said I should do abc…”. My response to such a person is usually, “God be with you”.
The reality is that it is difficult to counsel such a person, because you cannot counsel against the counsel of God. Many times, I know in my spirit that it is a bad move, but when the person says, “God said…”, what can I say? I was not in the meeting when God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit were making the decision. So that just shuts down the discussion, at least from my end. A lot of stupid decisions have been blamed on God. In retrospect, I have made some very foolish decisions that I thought were in line with what God was saying and it turned out not to be God at all. So I have my own scars. I hardly say, “God said”. I typically would say, “I feel this is what God is saying”.
I am very wary of people that claim that they hear God clearly twenty-four hours a day, all the time. I am very scared of such people because in my experience, it is not a very straight line with God. Sometimes, God hides Himself. Then you have to find Him out. When I speak on behalf of God, by the grace of God, now it is more accurate. And it is because I went through the journey of God breaking my limb, as it were. And for a season, I was limping on one leg because of the assumption God had said something He had not said.
It is my prayer that the things we will learn in this season, will change our lives completely and propel us all into new heights, in our walk with Jesus. God is going to help us to understand His heart when it comes to hearing His voice. Too many people are thrown into confusion because someone said the words, “God said”. Aren’t you a child of God? If you are, then pray and your Father will speak to you. God is NOT the author of confusion.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am Your sheep and I will hear Your voice. I will not follow the voice of another, in Jesus Name.
