Choose Who
Matt.6:24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” (mammon) [with emphasis].
The third thing Jesus said about money is that, how you relate with money shows the God that you serve. The word mammon from today’s Scripture reference means the spirit of material possessions. The story is told of a family consisting of the couple and their two children. They had a couch; this couch was the symbol of the family’s bond. When the man lies on the couch, his wife joins him and the children join in, jumping all over the parents and the couch. When the man comes back home from work and meets the children jumping on the couch, he drops his bag and joins in. That couch was truly special because of what it represented to the family.
Then this man got promoted at work and he changed the furniture in the living room to a leather settee. Then he gave this law, “thou shall not sit or jump upon this chair; the day thou doesn’t this, thou shall surely die”. And the chair that once kept the family together became the very thing that kept them apart. One day, the children took a position and confronted their father with it. “Do we own this couch or does this couch own us?” the boy asked. The man became furious and turned to his daughter, “Are you with him in this?” he asked. And she said, “We just want our old couch back”. The truth is, it was not really about the couch. They wanted the fellowship they had with their father and mother back. But sadly, money had come in and taken ownership of the family.
When you love money and you use God, you know that money has turned into mammon in your life. You really do not want to obey God but you want your prayers answered. You really do not want to follow God’s instructions but you want the breakthroughs. You know money has turned into mammon when you love money and use people.
In God’s Favourite House, we love God and we use money, and we use money to love people. You know money has turned to mammon when money owns you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I lay all that I am and all I will ever be, I lay all that I have and all I will ever have before Your throne. I choose You Master, in Jesus Name. Amen!
