Focus Your Energy

Rom.12:⁶  “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So, if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.”

I know a couple that the man is a better cook than his wife; so, he cooks in the house. The first time I went to visit and saw him doing the cooking I was scandalized. I pulled him aside to check if he was mentally stable. The truth is that he just enjoys doing the cooking. His wife on the other hand, loves to clean up; she can wash tomorrow’s dishes today. So, he does the cooking and his wife does the cleaning up. And there I was telling them something was wrong with their marriage. That was my perspective at the time, but I know better now.

On the other hand, I know a man who loves to sweep and he actually cleans the house better than his wife. When he cleans, the house is actually spotless. And because his mother was visiting, he was saying to me that he cannot continue sweeping when his mother is around. He claims that his mother will think he has been bewitched. My point is this if you are better at sweeping, if you are the better cook, then instead of complaining that your wife is falling short, go to the kitchen and or pick up the broom. I know some men will not like this.

Anyone that has been exceptional did not waste their time on areas of their weaknesses. Everybody has a weakness, but the people that are exceptional never waste time on the areas of their weaknesses. Instead they throw themselves into the areas of their strength. Such do not even dabble into the areas where they are average – they just focus on their strength. Why? It is because nobody can become exceptional at everything. If you insist on being exceptional at everything, you will be deceiving yourself. Everyone will have a weakness, areas where they are average, and areas where they are strong.

Unfortunately, we are told to work on our weaknesses. I say, except your weakness is a sin, do not work on it. If it is a sin and you do not work on it, it will take you to hell so you better work on it. If your weakness is an area of skill, leave it alone, find the area you are strong and focus.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please help me focus on the things that only I can do and do them excellently, in Jesus Name. Amen!
