Evaluate

1 Pet. 4:10 (LB) “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other” [with emphasis]

In order to find the right place to work, you must first evaluate your past work, secondly, evaluate your abilities, thirdly evaluate your work environment and fourthly, evaluate how you naturally relate with others.

Evaluate how you naturally relate with others because the number one reason for frustration in the workplace is people. Eighty-five percent of the people that resign do so because of their manager or their boss. 1 Thess. 5:14 “… Warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.” What this Scripture is teaching us is that you relate to different people in different ways.

Whenever I get the opportunity, I like to watch children play and it is because you can learn so much from just observing children. One day, I was watching a group of four children playing and one of them initiated that they go and play in the church auditorium. Another one suggested that they all go towards one of the offices. Two leaders had emerged and that was trouble. How was this going to be resolved? Then a peacemaker sprung up and suggested that they go to both places one after the other. Even in children you can see these traits – it is life. You need to find out which one you are – leader or follower?

Some are coordinators and some are coaches; which one are you? And it is because there is no single right style. Some people are insisting that their children must be leaders because they are leaders. Your child must be who your child is designed to be by God; that is how he or she will find fulfilment.

But there are certain jobs that require certain styles of relating with people. For instance, you cannot deploy the stern voice of a sergeant major to work in a nursery school. Do you understand? In God’s Favourite House, we have a group called the First Touch. Their objective is to welcome people to church and make them feel welcome. You cannot be part of this team if you are always frowning. If you are a born sales person, do not apply for a librarian’s job. Go and find something to sell.

Prayer: Father, I pray that the special abilities you have given me will be used in line with my calling and to help others, in Jesus Name. Amen!
