The Genesis
Rev.21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” 5 And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” …Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
If you would be honest with yourself, you will agree that God has given you a lot of ground in your past. There is a lot of gain in your past, things God has done in your life that you should be grateful for. But the more you remember the pains of yesterday, the more it becomes difficult to be grateful for the gains of yesterday. The more you hold on to the pains of the past, you cannot see the gains of the past. Even when you are alone with God, instead of overflowing with gratitude, what flows out from you is grumbling and complaining. God is saying to you in Isa.43:18-19 “The Lord says, ‘Forget about what has happened before. Do not think about the past. Instead, look at the new thing I am going to do.’” (NCV, with emphasis)
God is set to do a new thing in your life and He wants that to be your focus not the pain of the past. Remembering the pain of the past prevents us from seeing the glory of the future. I admit that sometimes the weight of the pain sometimes makes letting go seem impossible. I want you to know that you cannot let go in your strength alone, but God can help you do it. Through God you can forgive, through God you can move on. What I am saying to you today is, you are never going to be free from your past until God is in your life. You are never going to be free from the pain of the past until you lean on God. You may even feel like nobody knows the trouble you have seen, the abuse you have experienced, the pain of the neglect or the rejection, nobody knows. I do not claim to know but God knows. God is near, and God loves you.
Ps.34:18 (NCV) “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and He saves those whose spirits have been crushed.” If you are feeling broken hearted, I want to you know today that God is close to you. God is near you and He wants to help you get over the pain or resentment. God wants to help you get over the pain of regret; the regret borne out of the hurt from others and the hurt you have caused others. A lot are stuck in the “If only I can” zone; If only I can do this, if only I knew this, I would not have done that. No matter how much you regret it, you have done it already and there is nothing you can do to change it. What is done is done, so let it go. What is most important is what you are about to do. But if you are not free from what you have done, you are going to repeat the same thing in another form. You need to be free from what you have done so that you can begin to do what God wants you to do.
Prayer [song]: All that I am, all that I have, I lay them down before You, oh Lord. All my regrets, all my acclaims, the joy and the pain, I’m making them Yours. Lord, I offer my life to You… Amen!
