This Jesus
John 4:23-24 “But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Please read John 4:1-27. Every time I read the Word of God it is just beautiful. As you engage God’s Word, I pray that God Himself will breathe upon you, in Jesus Name. John 4:25-26 “The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!” Nobody else has ever made this kind of claim. Mohammed did not claim he was the Messiah. Buddha did not claim to be the Messiah. Krishna did not claim he was the Messiah. But Jesus said, “I am the Messiah!” Amazing!
Jn.4:9 “The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?”(emphasis added). Jews typically would snob Samaritan men. So what Jesus was doing here was a big deal. Being not just a Samaritan but a Samaritan woman made things even worse because it means she does not even have a voice. But here was Jesus (the Messiah), who should have been snobbish and looking down His nose at her, talking to her and asking her for help, asking her for a favour.
Jesus is not tribalistic. To be a follower of Jesus and operate based on race or tribe means you do not know Jesus at all. To be a follower of Jesus but then insist that your children cannot marry from certain tribes or ethnic groups is to not know Jesus at all. Jesus does not divide by tribe, or by gender. Jesus should not have spoken to the Samaritan woman, but Jesus did not segregate. I have been sent to tell those who feel that God does not really accept them that Jesus loves you so much. Jesus has accepted you and He has come to ask you for a glass of water. Are you going to give Him or are you going to start a theological debate? Jesus related with an outcast if you will and asked her for a favour.
John 4:10 “Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” This is a challenge for a lot of us. Sometimes we do not even know the people we are doing life with. It is a dreadful thing not to discern your friends and family members. Jacob said, “God was in this place and I did not know it.” It is possible for you to be speaking with Jesus and not discern the gift of God that is speaking with you. It is possible for you to be in the company of someone that can change your life and have no clue.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You for your great love and acceptance. Help me discern the people around me by Your Spirit, in Jesus Name. Amen!
