Good Grip
John 14:6 “Jesus said, “I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me.” (MSG)
If you are in a rut, more often than not, what will get you out of that rut is an external force. If you are in a rut, what will get you out of that rut are the people that God has put in your life. And that is why for the enemy to keep people in the rut for life, to destroy them, he needs to isolate them by taking them out of relationships, out of community, and out of the reach of their helpers, people that can actually help pull them out of the rut. God is saying to you, to get out of that rut, you need a force that is outside yourself. Then, once you are out of the rut and you begin to make progress, you still need traction. Most times, we think that since we are out of the rut, we are good, we do not need traction anymore.
But, another dimension of traction is to gain control, and this is our focus over the next few days. Traction is not only needed for motion, it is also needed for control. Sometime in 2021, the State of Taxes went through a snowstorm and personally, I learnt a lot of lessons on traction. I can write a book on traction just with what I learnt from that snowstorm. It was so bad that the power was out, water pipes burst, and ceiling fans inside houses got frozen. But in the midst of all of that, a man turned it into a business venture. He put a generator on the street and was charging people three dollars to charge their devices.
Another thing that happened in Dallas was there was a pile-up of vehicles due to a crash. There was an initial crash of an eighteen-wheeler and every other car that came along crashed into it causing a pile-up. All the other vehicles that crashed into the eighteen-wheeler crashed because of a lack of traction. They saw that there was an accident, slammed on their brakes, or tried to reduce their speed. Their cars began to skid, with no traction, and it resulted in a huge pile-up. So, for us not to wreck our lives, we need traction for control. And from there we can gain the traction needed to go the long haul. Are you ready?
For traction, you need a Good Grip With The Road. You must be sure-footed. Life is a journey, there is a way before everyone. And interestingly, Jesus says in John 14:6 “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” For the journey of life that leads to eternal life, Jesus is The Way. To get a good grip with the road (with the way), you need a good grip (a firm grip) with Christ.
Prayer (song): Draw me close to You. Never let me go. I lay it all down again, to hear You say that I’m Your friend… Help me find the way, bring me back to You… Amen!
