Mud & Ice, II
Romans 8:38 “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”
What are the things that get between us and The Way, those things that prevent traction? Yesterday we looked at the first, which is Sin. The second is Fear. Every time you see fear, you cannot find faith. Fear, they say, is the opposite of faith and that is so true. Without faith it is impossible to walk with God. You cannot be on The Way if you are filled with fear. You get on The Way by faith. You stay on The Way by faith. You progress on The Way by faith and The Way is Christ. You need a good grip with The Way. Sometimes, it is fear of the Goliath, we look at the situation or the enemy and we are afraid. Sometimes, we are afraid of the opinions of men.
Sometimes, you are afraid of intimidation. Who is intimidating you? How do you overcome intimidation? One of the powerful ways I have discovered is, to drag the person to your Father just like children do and the intimidation will disappear. Elijah made the mistake of allowing Jezebel to intimidate him. God will feed the flesh of every Jezebel attempting to intimidate you to the dogs in the Name of Jesus. Say Amen. The truth is fear and faith do not mix. Fear insulates us from contact with The Way.
The third thing that insulates us from contact with The Way is Isolation. When people hurt us, we default to isolating ourselves because we do not want to get hurt again. We resolve not to be vulnerable to anyone ever again. I am sorry for everyone that has hurt you. But the truth is, you need people to live a fulfilled life. You cannot do without people, and people cannot do without you. That hurt should make you wiser, and not make you go into isolation. By the way, isolation is not wisdom, it is foolishness. Jesus lives in believers, so believers are representatives of Christ. Remember, we have established that traction is a frictional force between two surfaces. When people encounter each other there is a frictional force.
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” When iron sharpens iron there is heat and there are sparks. And because of the sparks, most people want to isolate themselves. What are the “mud and ice” that get in our way of us getting traction with The Way? Please read Romans 8:33-39 out loud and then just cuddle this scripture. Can anything ever separate or remove the traction we have with the love of God? I am convinced that nothing can – not mud, ice, or even both! So, for traction and control, you need a good grip with The Way.
Prayer (song): There’s no shadow You won’t light up, mountain You won’t climb up, coming after me. There’s no wall You won’t kick down, lie You won’t tear down, coming after me. Amen!
