The Helper!

Romans 8:27-28 “He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” (MSG)

When you think long-term, you do not really worry, and you are not hopeless. Instead, you are filled with hope. So, you need to focus on long-term benefits and not on short-term inconveniences.

In your weight loss, think long term and then decide if you want to eat that heavy meal at eleven o’clock at night. Is it in your savings? You just want to spend the money now. But if you think long-term, you can save, and keep saving. Is it in your spiritual growth?

If you think long-term, you will not miss church and fellowship. If you think long term, you will know that it is line upon line, precept upon precept, a little here, a little there. You are becoming stronger spiritually. If you think long term, you will be faithful in your tithing because you know that the more consistent you are, the more you are building a strong financial foundation spiritually. If you think long-term, you will be more consistent in evangelism and in reaching out to people that are far from God. So, refocus on the long-term and not on the short-term.

The sixth mental habit to demolish the sixth weapon of self-destruction bitterness is, Remind Yourself That God Is Good And God Is In Control. When you remember that God is not only good, but He is also in control, it is the solution to bitterness. When you feel like life is unfair maybe because of something that happened to you, you want to be bitter. I want to encourage you to rethink, refocus, and remind yourself that God is good, and God is in control. Romans 8:26-27 “Also, the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We do not know how to pray as we should. But the Spirit himself speaks to God for us, even begs God for us with deep feelings that words cannot explain. God can see what is in people’s hearts. And he knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit speaks to God for his people in the way God wants.” (NCV, emphasis added).

Don’t you just love the Holy Spirit? Romans 8:28 “AND we know that in ALL THINGS God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (NIV, emphasis added). Not a few things, or some things, or most things, but all things work together for good for those that love God and are called according to His purpose. So, yes, life is unfair, and pain in life is not optional. Everybody feels pain, but guess what? Misery is optional. The fact that you go through pain does not mean you must be miserable. Life is not fair, and pain is not optional, but misery is optional. Bitterness is optional. Sorrow is optional.

Prayer (song): I will call upon Your Name and keep my eyes above the waves. When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace. For I am Yours and You are mine. Amen!
