Relying

Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.” (BSB, emphasis added)

To abide on eagle’s wings the second phrase is Lean Not On Your Own Understanding and that is Relying. Relying is not leaning on your own understanding. Relying is something we do every day. You are probably seated right now which means you are relying on the chair. Most of us would typically not check a chair before we sit on it. Most of us would not care about who the manufacturer of the chair is. Most of us drive trusting that the other drivers on the road are sane or that they know what they are doing. What if they are crazy or they do not know what they are doing? Then there is an accident. We rely on people we do not know. But I am saying to you rely on God because God is better and stronger than the chair you are sitting on. He can carry you.

God is more rational, more thoughtful, more compassionate, and more collected than the possibly drunk driver you are relying on. God is more skilful than the pilot that you rely on to fly you from point A to point B. To be carried on eagle’s wings is relying on God, and not relying on yourself. Lean not on your own understanding. God’s Word is saying that there is something bigger in this world than my emotions in the moment. There is something bigger in this world than my reasoning in the moment. So human intuition and human emotions are not always reliable. Lean not on your own understanding.

Mark 10:43 “…If one of you wants to be great, you must be the servant of the rest.” (GNT). Now, this is huge because the world’s model of being great is to have people serve you. But Jesus turned it on its head. Do not rely on your own understanding. God’s ways are not always reasonable in the moment, but God is always reliable. When you rely on Him to discover more and more of life, you will discover more and more that God is reliable. God is completely trustworthy. The principle for relying is the Ninety-Ten Principle. And it states that God can do more with ninety percent (90%) of your money when you trust Him with the first ten percent (10%) by relying on Him. Proverbs 3:9-10Honour the Lord with your wealth, with the first-fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” (NIV).

The key to being carried on eagle’s wings financially is the Ninety-Ten Principle. The same applies in your business, family, and relationships. If you put God first, God will make the rest huge and far more than you can even begin to imagine.

Prayer: Father, I trust in You with all my heart, my soul, and my strength. I choose to rely on You and not on my understanding, strength, or wisdom, in Jesus Name. Amen!
